Two Poems

it’s been a while since my last record, and i have a new effort ready just in time for record store day!

the record is a single called two poems, and it will be released on 7″ vinyl on april 15. in the meantime, you can stream both songs here.

so, here’s how it works: two poems will only be released in a limited pressing of 500 vinyl copies, and comes in a hand-numbered letterpress-printed record sleeve from stumptown printers, with original artwork by nicole blackburn. each copy of two poems comes with a download code (redeemable on bandcamp) for a 320kbps mp3 copy of each song.

physical vinyl copies of two poems will be available at a name-your-own-price rate (with a $5 minimum) on bandcamp, and will be available at shows and a few record stores for $7. purchases of the phyiscal copies through bandcamp will also come with an immeidate download of a new SECRET BONUS TRACK that i recorded with scott solter in november.

after the original 500 pressings are sold, two poems will no longer be available for purchase in a physical recorded medium.

i’ll be celebrating the release of two poems with a FREE acoustic show at ribbon records in peoria at 2pm. i will have copies of two poems for sale with me, and the event is all ages!

it would mean a lot to me to see you there!

pseudoscience records’ “christmas volume one”

i just contributed a track to the first release by lafayette, indiana’s pseudoscience records. the record in question is christmas volume one, and it’s a holiday compilation featuring tracks by indie artists like myself. the record dropped on black friday for online purchase, so please check it out HERE.

if you like what you hear, please buy the record! all proceeds go to local lafayette charities.

my track, “past three o’clock” is a victorian carol that my old high school madrigal group used to sing as a set-closing song. i always liked the song (even after i was kicked out the group), and thought that this compilation would be a good opportunity for me to work up my own version of the tune.

the song was recorded and mixed by scott solter at baucom road on november 15 and 16, 2010 in a whirlwind recording session while i was on tour through the east coast last week. scott is one of my favorite producers ever, and it really means a lot to me that i was able to work with him.

we recorded three songs in all during the session. the two other songs are, like the rest of my work, non-holiday related, and will be released together at some point in 2011.

scott and i worked out the arrangement for “past three o’clock” very collaboratively, with me singing the four voice parts, and scott meticulously preparing the vibraphone landscapes. the song was mastered for release by pseudoscience’s adam jahn.

i hope you enjoy the results of our work! stay tuned for the release of the other tunes scott and i recorded during the aforementioned session in the near future!

i was fortunate enough to be working merch for the goats/vanderslice tour the day that the moon colony bloodbath EPs arrived. now the album can only be found on ebay, but i’m listening to it now as i painstakingly correct my basic twelve-tone operations assignment. it is excellent. it is 4:32am.

recording again tonight: it is erik juhl bass/clarinet night!
